With phones now reaching paper levels of thinness it was only a matter of time before laptops went the same way. So Toshiba has run its already slight R200 series laptop t to create the 12.1in widescreen R500.
Measuring just 19.6mm in the vertical, it's the world's thinnest laptop with an optical drive. It'll squeeze in a reasonable 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo U7600, a Vista Business-friendly 1 gig of RAM and a meaty 120GB hard drive.
It also claims to be the world’s first 12.1in widescreen notebook with a backlit LED screen and it's got the longest battery life of any 12.1in widescreen model, promising "up to a full work day'". There's more, Toshiba is also eyeing up the crown for the world's lightest 12.1in with a 64GB solid state disk model, weighing just 780g and due out later in the year.
